I spent a day in Geneva by taking a train from Zurich. Geneva is Switzerland’s second largest city and is also the headquarters of Europe’s United Nations. One of the reasons I wanted to visit Geneva was because French is the primary official language, and something about speaking French appeals to me.
I toured the old town area by riding the hop on/off trolley train. The train was different from the tour buses I’ve ridden in other countries. However, I quickly understood why they used the style of transportation. The streets are very narrow, which would make it very difficult for busses to get through. This was the perfect way to see the city since I was there for a short period of time.
We traveled through the cobblestone streets of the Old Town and saw several beautiful historical buildings. We also passed by famous St. Pierre Cathedral and the Jet d’Eau (a giant water jet in the lake that shoots 140 meters high).
I would recommend visiting Geneva for more than a day; perhaps 3 days.
